From the streets of Europe to the shores of the Mediterranean, EU4Ocean showcases how citizens, cities, and communities are transforming ocean awareness into ocean action and making waves globally.
EU4Ocean arrives at the UNOC 2025 in Nice with a full programme of meaningful engagement, advocacy, and community-driven innovation. Through the unifying metaphor of "le CIEL" – the sky that reflects the ocean, just as our societies shape marine health, EU4Ocean highlights its contributions across four key areas:
🔹 C – Cities in Action
#MakeEUBlue: Cities in Action calls on citizens and municipalities to act for river and ocean sustainability. Join us on 6 June and 12 June at the NGO Basecamp and OL Pavilion to discover how the campaign mobilises support, builds partnerships and inspires local transformation.
🔹 I – Inclusivity
Ensuring access to ocean knowledge and artistic expression for all, EU4Ocean supports initiatives such as Becoming Ocean (Villa Arson) and dialogues on inclusive ocean education systems (10 June, OL Pavilion).
🔹 E – Education
How do we embed rivers and the ocean into European education? On 10 June, explore strategies and tools for scaling up ocean literacy within formal systems, with insights from BlueLightS, SHORE, ProBleu and more.
🔹 L – Learning Communities
From best practices to emerging networks, our sessions (June 6–12) foster dialogue on how to build dynamic, diverse and sustainable ocean literacy communities. With partners including IOC-UNESCO, ECOPs, and the Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition, this stream highlights collaborative learning efforts across regions. A key moment includes the “Ocean Literacy Practices: Knowing, Feeling, Acting for the Ocean” workshop (12 June, 13:00–14:00, Ocean Literacy & Conservation Pavilion, Green Zone), co-organised by the ECOP Programme, EU4Ocean and MENA Oceans. The session will spotlight global ocean literacy practices across continents, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, North & Central America, and Europe, through three interactive panels focused on Knowing, Feeling, and Acting for the ocean.
Youth voices will guide and energise the programme throughout. Meet our Youth4Ocean Forum members every morning at The Whale for “Morning Tides” and join Storming the Whale for powerful exchanges and ideas.
📍 Also in the Blue Zone
Catch EU4Ocean voices at the high-level Ocean Action Panel on Science & Capacity (9 June, 15:00) and the session on Inclusive Ocean Governance (10 June, 12:15).
